COSMOS: Redefining the Spirit of Exploration
On 9 August 2025, Lürssen unveiled COSMOS, a remarkable creation that pushes beyond the boundaries of traditional yacht design. Stretching just over 114 metres, she stands among the largest yachts to be launched this year. With her bold and distinctive architecture and interiors by Marc Newson, COSMOS is set to become an instant yachting icon.

“This is a truly exceptional project to coincide with our 150th anniversary,” says Peter Lürssen. “While no two yachts from our shipyard are ever alike, some make an unforgettable impact on our legacy – COSMOS is unquestionably one of them.”
Commissioned by an owner with a passion for originality and discovery, COSMOS embodies a vision of something extraordinary and unlike any other vessel. Marc Newson’s cohesive and forward-thinking design inside and out delivers a striking elegance with a futuristic edge. His creative approach brings an entirely new dimension to yacht design, resulting in a sculptural, fluid silhouette unlike anything before her.

“Collaborating with such an imaginative client gave us the opportunity to truly challenge the limits,” Newson explains. “Every element – from the tiniest feature to the full silhouette, both exterior and interior – is part of our design language. This complete creative freedom allowed the project to evolve naturally, producing a sense of originality and harmony that feels completely authentic to our style.”
One of COSMOS’ most distinctive features is the glass-domed private owner’s study, crowned with its own sky terrace. This space was a triumph of advanced glass engineering, with Lürssen developing a bespoke method to curve large sections of thick glass without distortion, achieving flawless transparency and uninterrupted 360-degree views from its elevated position. The sky terrace extends the experience outdoors, offering a secluded al fresco retreat directly linked to the study.

Glass continues as a central design theme on the cabin deck, where a continuous band of glazing wraps around the upper level for panoramic vistas. At the bow, beneath the helipad, sits a glass-enclosed observation lounge, while aft a balcony with a glass balustrade overlooks the expansive main deck.
The open aft deck blends luxury with function. Its centrepiece is a pool and Jacuzzi combination surrounded by plush seating, while further aft a dry dock equipped with a sledge system enables the launch and retrieval of the yacht’s largest tender.
Built for extended voyages in remote waters, COSMOS spans six decks and meets Ice Class 1D standards, allowing safe navigation in light ice conditions. This capability enables journeys across all five oceans and to every continent.

In keeping with the owner’s forward-looking mindset, COSMOS also features an experimental methanol fuel cell installation. This pioneering system transforms methanol into hydrogen, which is then converted into electricity – a challenging and sophisticated technological innovation that reflects the yacht’s commitment to sustainable exploration.
